Start a sub-conference

During an audio conference, you can start a sub-conference for more private communication. A sub-conference is like a separate breakout room, where only people in the sub-conference hear each other.

  • Only the host can open or close a sub-conference. Once you start the sub-conference, you and your guests can move into the sub-conference and back to the main meeting as needed.
  • On the phone, up to 9 sub-conferences are automatically supported. The Audio Controls allow one sub-conference.
  • In the Audio Controls, hosts can also move guests in and out of the sub-conference. If you and your guests On your desk or mobile phone, use the telephone keypad (star) commands.

To start a sub-conference:

  1. Press *2 and then 1 to activate sub-conferencing.
  2. To set up the first sub-conference (numbered 1), press #1; to set up sub-conference 2, press #2, etc.
  3. After the sub-conference is active, you can tell your guests to press # (pound) followed by the sub-conference number to enter it.

To close all sub-conferences and pull everyone back:

Press #0 to turn off breakout sessions. This returns all participants back to the main conference.

To join and leave a sub-conference:

  • Press # (pound) followed by the number of the sub-conference “room” you want to enter. For example, press #1 to go to sub-conference 1.
  • Press the pound key two times (# #) to go back to the main conference.

Audio Controls

In the Audio Controls, you start a sub-conference by moving a guest (or yourself) to the sub-conference.

To start a sub-conference:

  1. In the Participants panel, point to the name of the first guest you would like to include in the sub-conference. (Or point to your own row.)
  2. Click the Settings (gear) button and then click Move to Sub-Conference.

  3. Repeat these steps for all guests you would like to include in the sub-conference.

To join or leave the sub-conference:

Once the sub-conference is active, both the host and guests can move in and out of it.

  • To join: in the Participants panel point to your own name, click the Settings (gear) button, and then click Move to Sub-Conference.
  • To leave: in the Sub-Conference panel point to your own name, click the Settings (gear) button, and then click Move to Conference.
  • To remove a guest: in the Sub-Conference panel point to the guest's name, click the Settings (gear) button, and then click Move to Conference.

To end the sub-conference:

Move all guests out of the sub-conference. In the Sub-Conference panel, point to a guest's name, click the Settings (gear) button, and then click Move to Conference. Repeat until all guests are back in the main conference; the sub-conference is closed and the Sub-Conference panel is automatically removed.
